My hometown, about 8 or 9000 people, has had 3 so far with several hundred people participating. All have been peaceful, diverse and supported by city police and government officials. I think there was another event yesterday too. We are usually a few steps behind the times so it's interesting to see this happen.
If you are outside a major PA metro area, what are things like in your community?

(10,281 posts)... yesterday, I went to get some groceries. I was surprised! They were mostly White... home made signs. Several said, "Black Live Matter." MLK was on one sign. Police cars were there to help with traffic. I honked as that was what they asked, to show support... a lot of honking from cars. I was, to restate, very surprised.

(16,303 posts)There aren't too many people of color in the northern tier of PA.
There was one in Clearfield the other day. It looked like a decent turnout for this area.

(22,883 posts)Our house is in Damascus, PA which is in NE Pennsylvania on the Delaware River. Yesterday, there was a protest rally across the river in Callicoon, NY. A cop told me they were expecting 50-60 people but were surprised that there were nearly 300 at the rally.
This is a very rural area and although Callicoon is a weekend destination for some people, it was a real surprise to see so many folks turn out.

(9,691 posts)Quakertown which is in Upper Bucks County and mostly still more small town than suburban. The first protest was last Tuesday. The local RWNJs spread rumors about Antifa etc and published on FB that it was cancelled. It wasnt, was very peaceful. The second was about 300 people in a park downtown, peaceful, everybody wearing masks and keeping their distance. Attended by a number of local clergy.
we can do it

(4,378 posts)There were about 300 people there. Also there were Veterans with AR 15s and one with a bat. They said they were "protecting" their monument. Scared the hell out of the young children who were attending the march. The same children who have to have safety drills at school because of mass shootings. I knew these hillbillies would do this...they were threatening marchers on the town's Facebook page. One of my friends had to call the police and DA over threats.
