Butler Health System COO and husband sentenced for embezzling almost $1.96 million
A Butler County, PA, husband and wife were sentenced to prison Thursday for embezzling more than $1 million from Butler Health System from 2011 to 2017. Federal prosecutors said Scott and Stephanie Roskovski used the stolen money for personal expenditures including expensive vacations, home improvements and lavish parties.
Ms. Roskovski, 50, who was the chief operating officer of the health system, will spend 51 months in prison.
Her husband, a former detective who specialized in fraud cases for the district attorney in Butler County will spend 30 months behind bars. Judge Stickman said he could not ignore the fact that Mr. Roskovski was a fraud detective.
Jay Marinstein served as outside counsel for Butler Health in 2017 after the company found evidence of fraud. He said the damages report created by a forensic damage expert found the losses to be almost $1.96 million. Just over $1.3 million of that number was taken from the company between 2011 and 2017. The government is seeking $1.3 million from the Roskovskis.
Some of the expenses that the couple used Butler Healths money for included a $68,000 trip to Hawaii, expensive seats at a Justin Bieber concert, the construction of a sauna, and a mechanical bull for a party, according to Judge Stickman.
