Wolf vetoes bill banning Pennsylvania primary schools, colleges from requiring COVID vaccines

Gov. Tom Wolf has vetoed a bill restricting the powers of the state Health Department during emergencies, and banning public agencies, including school districts from asking individuals for proof of vaccination to access government buildings or resources.

In his veto message, Wolf called the bill “contradictory, misguided and irresponsible.”

“Short-sighted legislation to tie the hands of people dedicated to public health will only make infectious diseases more difficult to fight,” Wolf said.

The bill would have prevented the state Secretary of Health from closing businesses, restricting travel, or order masking again, whether due to COVID-19 or another future health emergency.

The bill also would prevent any public entity from checking someone’s COVID-19 vaccination status, such as a school district requiring teachers or students to be vaccinated. Such requirements are colloquially known as “vaccine passports.”

Usually it's the Republicans who are against requiring vaccines. PoindexterOglethorpe Jul 2021 #3

And they just adjourned for the summer.

The unfortunate problem here in PA is that the (mis)-informed public voted to change the state Constitution (after a multi-year process concluding with a referendum during the past primary) that limits a governor's state of emergency to 3 weeks vs 3 months and allows the state legislature to end a Governor's disaster declaration with a simple majority vs 2/3rds, and they can end any state of emergency after the initial 3 weeks have passed if a governor extends it, by a simple (non-vetoable) resolution.

That was back when they were the "law and order" party and the "balanced budget" party too.
