Will Gov. Shapiro be invited on the presidential ticket? I hope not - I want to keep him here

Here's a rundown of Josh Shapiro's accomplishments as our Governor for the past 1.5 years.

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has emerged as a top contender for the vice-presidential nod following President Joe Biden’s stunning announcement that he is dropping out of the 2024 race and endorsing Kamala Harris to take his spot on the ballot.

Shapiro, 51, was elected Pennsylvania’s governor in 2022 and assumed office in January 2023. He is a moderate Democrat whose career trajectory has seen him move from congressional aide to Pennsylvania’s chief executive, all within two decades.

Already, top elected Democrats in Pennsylvania like state House Speaker Joanna McClinton and party leaders like Philadelphia Democratic chair Bob Brady have endorsed Shapiro as a possible vice presidential pick, citing his wins in a divided General Assembly and electoral success in a key swing state.

At a Monday afternoon event in Pittsburgh, Shapiro said he has spoken to both Biden and Harris, but declined to say whether he is in talks to join the ticket.

There are lots of great choices for the Vice Presidential slot. But we need our Governor here in Harrisburg. Let's not be hasty!

We still need him here in PA! There is so much at stake, and we cannot trust the Republicans to follow the law in this election in November.

The best thing is he would bring a lot of western PA votes with him. Western PA is where Dems usually struggle, but after 3 terms as Allegheny County exec, he's well known and well regarded on this side of the state. He's also an Irish Catholic who, along with his wife Cathy, has raised 8 kids (6 of them girls) who all appear to be quite successful adults.

... but he's only known in our part of the state. Kamala will need someone who is known nationally and can hopefully bring a lot of electoral votes too. I'm thinking JB Pritzker, governor of Illinois, might be an excellent choice.

Presumably Kamala won't select Gavin Newsom because she's from California and so is he.

If Josh Shapiro had already finished his first term and had won re-election, I'd say he'd be an awesome running mate for Kamala. But not now, it's too soon and we really need him here in Pennsylvania.

Fitzgerald has plenty of the attributes that play well in eastern and NE PA. His role will be attack dog which I'm sure he can do well.

Nobody outside of PA knows who Shapiro is anyway.
