Raimondo has spent over $5 million on reelection campaign
PROVIDENCE, R.I. Four weeks before Election Day, Gov. Gina Raimondo had already spent $5.5 million on her reelection bid, according to the latest campaign finance filings with the R.I. Board of Elections, easily quadrupling the spending of her closest gubernatorial rival, Cranston Mayor Allan Fung.
With $1.3 million in her campaign bank account even after carpeting the airwaves with ads, it appears certain Raimondo will exceed the $5.6 million she spent in 2014 to win the governors office. While competing in a bitter Democratic primary, she raised $458,000 between Sept. 5 and Monday.
And her personal financial advantage doesnt count the millions that outside groups have spent to help keep Raimondo in office, figures that dwarf the help she received four years ago from outside groups and the spending Fung has received from Republican groups.
On Wednesday, the Democratic Governors Association reported another $1 million contribution to the pro-Raimondo Alliance for Better Rhode Island PAC. The PAC has received nearly $2.9 million this year, $2 million of that from the DGA and $895,000 from an arm of Emilys List.
