Justin Kanew, a film writer and producer from Williamson County and past contestant on the television show "The Amazing Race," says he's running as a Democrat in 2018 for the seat held by U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee.
It's a long-shot bid in Tennessee's heavily Republican 7th Congressional District.
But Kanew said he feels driven to step up in the ongoing battle over health care to fight the alternative proposal pushed by President Donald Trump to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.
"It's a cruel bill and we need as many people as possible in Congress that are are willing to fight against something like this," he said of Republicans' alternative health care plan. "This is exactly the kind of thing that shows there are people putting corporations and the wealthy ahead of the people of Tennessee."

It seems she is being positioned for "greater things" in the Repuke party, though, so I imagine they will do everything possible to INSURE she wins.

(5,510 posts)Especially Middle TN. My contention is that all these Bozoes were elected (& re-elected) because of these shady electronic voting machines. I agree w/Trump on one thing--elections ARE rigged! Rigged for & by them! Citizens United certainly had helped them win elections & should be overturned, BUT we should be just as active in getting these machines outlawed & go back to paper ballots. The fact that DeJarlais was re-elected is particularly suspicious. Also, we need to investigate the churches using their pulpits to persuade their congregations to vote for a particular candidate (mainly Republicans). We need to gather evidence of this & then have their tax-exempt status revoked. That will clean up that unconstitutional activity real quick! Ok, off my soapbox now.
I'm hoping this review by the Cincinnati 6th Court of Appeals looking at the validity of the abortion ban vote in 2014 will result in a light being shined on our voting processes, not just in TN, but all across the country. Then maybe we can get rid of these "creatures" & elect some decent representation. Keep your fingers crossed!

(5,587 posts)show up at the polls every time they are open!
Three friends of mine are plaintiffs in the case that went before the 6th Circuit today, and I can't wait to hear what they have to say about the proceedings. I was very active in the Vote No on 1 campaign and was profoundly disappointed when it the amendment passed.
I agree with what you are saying about churches and tax exemption; having the ballot box in the pulpit WOULD stop quickly if their $$$ were to be impacted!
Fingers are crossed! I remember Nixon, and I hate that we are reliving much of those years...

(5,510 posts)I'm considering working the polls in 2018.
Let us know what your friends relay to you about the 6th Court proceedings. Feeling this is going to be a turning point for voting procedures & bringing to light what Oz is doing behind the curtain. Fingers crossed that justice is served!
