"The Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship is hosting a ceremonial march Jan. 20 honoring Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. that will take participants from Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church to Tennessee State University.
Following the march, which begins at 10:15 a.m. at the intersection of 28th Avenue North and Jefferson Street, MSNBC host Joy-Ann Reid will serve as the 31st annual event's keynote speaker at TSUs Gentry Center Complex, 3500 John A. Merritt Blvd., Nashville.
The IMF is more than thrilled to have Joy-Ann Reid this year and we are looking forward to her perspective on the legacy that Dr. King left for us to continue, IMF President Rev. James C. Turner II said in a news release. As a leader in the journalism field, it is ideal to hear from her perspective when freedom of speech has been tested among her profession. This national holiday is a day on, not a day off to serve, celebrate and commemorate the important work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Ms. Reid will bring a powerful view of todays view of the work done and that which has yet to be accomplished.
Gov. Bill Lee, Mayor John Cooper, Metro Nashville Council members and other city leaders will be in attendance at the event, according to the release. Nashville's MLK Day celebration has been organized by the IMF since 1989.
