Memphis PD chief meets with Biden to talk violent crime

Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn “C.J.” Davis and police leaders and officials from several other cities met with President Joe Biden at the White House Monday, July 12, to talk about stemming violent crime.

Davis did not speak and had no immediate comments on the meeting, which was the latest push by Biden and his administration to develop a comprehensive strategy to deal with the summer surge in violent crime.

That strategy includes using some of the federal pandemic relief funds going to cities and states from Washington.

“While there’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, we know there are some things that work, and the first of those that work is stemming the flow of firearms used to commit violent crimes,” Biden said in a press briefing with the police chiefs before the talks began.
