"Clay Bennett, the cartoonist for the Chattanooga Times Free Press, was a finalist for the 2024 Pulitzer Prize award in the illustrated reporting and commentary category, it was announced Monday.
This is the eighth time Bennett has been a finalist in the prestigious Pulitzer competition. He won a Pulitzer in 2002 for his editorial cartoons.
The judges wrote Bennett's entry of 15 cartoons is "a portfolio of deceptively gentle, mostly wordless cartoons full of juxtapositions that ably communicate complex, sophisticated messages."
Before joining the Times Free Press in 2007 as the cartoonist for the Chattanooga Times editorial page, he worked for the St. Petersburg Times and Christian Science Monitor. His work is syndicated in about 100 newspapers through Counterpoint Syndication."
