Safety first-- $4 million renovation project underway for safer, more secure election facility

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - With less than 24 hours until Memphis and Shelby County voters head to the polls, major construction is underway at Shelby County Election headquarters.

The improvements to the Operations Center at 980 Nixon are being implemented to increase election security and safety.

Election integrity is more important now than ever, and your tax dollars are hard at work fortifying your vote.

“We are in the middle of a renovation project,” said Linda Phillips, Shelby County Administrator of Elections, “which is not ideal. But a lot of what we’re doing in the building is improving security.”
