Lawmaker Jailed in Campaign Sign Theft Bailed Out by Victim

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A Tennessee political candidate didn't want his rival to be behind bars when the two square off at the polls – even if the jailed lawmaker is accused of taking his campaign signs.

Mark Lovell, one of state Rep. Curry Todd's opponents in Thursday's Republican primary race, tells news outlets that he posted a $100 bond for the lawmaker on Tuesday as a "good deed."

Todd had been in a Memphis jail after being arrested Monday on a theft charge.

Shelby County Sheriff's Office spokesman Earle Farrell says video from last month shows Todd removing signs belonging to Lovell, one of three challengers in the primary.
