Hundreds press Marsha Blackburn for answers at town hall

James Burks taught school for 42 years, and lost much of his right arm due to a treatable but incurable form of cancer. He drew perhaps the most rousing applause from about 130 residents on Tuesday inside at a town hall in Fairview hosted by U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn.

The applause wasn't for his question. It came when he gave a piece of advice to the eight-term Republican from Brentwood.

"Understand that, please, the things going on in America today are not Democrat or Republican things," he said. &quot What you're doing,) you're doing it for the good of the people, not anyone on any side of the aisle."

Burks, who says he split his vote in November between Democrats and Republicans, told Blackburn to "be careful" with school vouchers, health care and other key issues facing the Republican-led Congress and a White House facing intense criticism.

outside Fairview City Hall for the benefit of those of us who wanted to attend but could not due to the 100-seat capacity of the space Blackburn chose for the event. The organizer of the alternative event, which was great and will be posted on the Internet, was none other than activist Bernie Ellis, who used to post on DU under the screen name " Fly by night"!

The people of Fairview are not at all happy w/Mrs. Blackburn. It is a small rural town that just happens to be in the wealthiest county in the state. The rest of the county has ALWAYS looked down on Fairview as it's backward, red-headed step-child. I am sure Marsha thought it would be a "safe" place to hold her town hall, with few attendees. Her statements that the people in attendance didn't live in her district is just another example of the wealthy throwing sand in their face. Quite insulting. Marsha just showed her true colors & her ass. This has backfired on her "bigly".

It's nice to know that her town hall was a rousing failure.
