Texas Democrats-Who went to their county/senate district conventions today?
The process for selecting delegates to the state convention and handling party business calls for county conventions or separate senate district conventions for counties with more than one senate district. Delegates to the state convention are elected at this meeting and we voted on some resolutions to be considered at the state convention.
It was nice to have an in-person county convention. The 2020 county/senate district conventions were virtual as was the state party convention. I remember being elected to the rules committee for the 2020 state convention and having two+ hour zoom meeting on party rules. I have been going to county/senate district conventions with Juantia Jean for a very long time, but she was redistricted to another senate district as was our SDEC committeewoman. As is normal for Democratic party meetings, the meeting was supposed to be one and one-half hours but lasted over three hours.
I am currently planning on going to state party convention but that will depend on whether there are any new COVID strains in July. Hopefully, I can avoid being on the rules committee again. I was on the 2018 rules committee which was a five + hours meeting. Discussing party rules with a bunch of lawyers is no longer my idea of fun.
We got to hear from Beto and Gilberto Hinojosa. A state party communications person was at the convention and told us about the voter outreach plans. I recruited a couple of lawyers for the Democratic Lawyers Association.
