The Nacogdoches Texas Republican, believed to be the earliest newspaper published in Texas, was first printed on August 14, 1819.

It was "principally occupied with the military and political operations going on in that quarter" and also ran "Gasoline Alley."

Texas was not independent from Mexico until 1838. Why would they have a newspaper in English? ‘Gasoline Alley,’ a comic strip first appeared in 1918. Gasoline wasn’t invented until the mid 19th century. The author of the article needs some more ‘edumacation.’
