Insulin and the Texas Vote

I listened to President Biden’s State of the Union speech last night. I was highly impressed with all of it, but one issue particularly caught my attention: insulin and insulin price gouging.

Texas has a LOT of people with diabetes. And at the risk of offending folks, a lot of them have at least some First Nation ancestry, whether their ancestry was from north or south of the current US—Mexican border. And Texas isn’t Florida or New Jersey: most of Texas’ Latinos have ancestors from the American continents, and many of them come from populations vulnerable to diabetes. In total, Texas Latinos now constitute a plurality of Texas’ population.

Nor are they alone. A LOT of Texas’ Euro-American and Afro- American populations are also vulnerable to diabetes.

The Texas Republican Party has done little or nothing to curb insulin price gouging. I don’t believe Cancun Cruz has, not have other state-level Republican officials.

I hope Colin Allread and other Texans running for office this year take this issue and run with it.
