Two people are dead and at least 35 others were affected after a chemical leak involving hydrogen sulfide occurred at a PEMEX facility in Deer Park, officials said on Thursday.
The extent of injuries is unknown due to officials not being able to make entry into the affected unit, officials said.
Deer Park Mayor Jerry Mouton gave reassurance to community members that there was not a chemical leak in the surrounding area, despite the smell of hydrogen sulfide seeping out into the air.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the scene remains preliminary and fluid, but noted the "situation seems contained to the scene, and no threat to the external community."

(3,591 posts)Watched a local station report on it. According to them Pemex waited about 30 minutes before reporting it. Also they said they wouldnt be going in until the morning to see if there are other deaths. But that doesnt make any sense. They should know how many people were there and how many missing. Also they should have full hazmat suits with oxygen so they could respond.
Deer park just got over the massive pipeline fire a couple weeks ago.

(3,591 posts)I havent talked to her since I just found out. Im pretty sure she didnt have to shelter in place. She is towards the middle of Deer Park. She also was outside of the pipeline fire evacuation area last time.
