Texas Republicans and Democrats spar in silly 'Billboard war' - NewsNation

Clint Voight, owner of a gun shop in Kendall County, Texas, was not happy to see a billboard near his shop with the message, “Vote Democratic.” So, he rented the billboard underneath it and posted, “Just Kidding. Vote Republican. MAGA.” Voight and Kendall County Democratic Party Chair Laura Bray joined “On Balance” to share a laugh about their “billboard war.”

Kendall County is on the northwest side of San Antonio and Boerne (pronounced "Bernie&quot is the county seat. The population of the county is about 45,000 people.

History

Founded in 1953, WEAR TV – Pensacola News is an ABC-affiliated television station licensed to Pensacola, Florida, United States. The associated website is weartv.com which provides news, sports, weather, lifestyle, and crime reporting.

Funded by / Ownership

WEAR TV – Pensacola News is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, a publicly traded American telecommunications company controlled by the family of company founder Julian Sinclair Smith. The company is the second-largest television station operator in the United States by the number of stations, and largest by total coverage; owning or operating a total of 193 stations across the country in over 100 markets (covering 40% of American households), many of which are located in the South and Midwest.

Sinclair has been scrutinized by multiple media outlets for consistently favoring conservative politics. They are considered a rival to the right biased Fox News for the conservative audience. The Seattle Times has written a piece documenting Sinclair’s right-wing bias. Further, according to the Center for Responsive Politics (Open Secrets), the Sinclair Broadcast Group has donated $1,143,508 or 80% to Republican candidates since 1994.

Finally, in March 2018, Sinclair ordered its stations to produce promos with an “anchor delivered journalistic responsibility message” dictated by the company. The wording of the mandated script was criticized by some station news staff and outside pundits for its discussion of “fake news,” with some critics arguing that the message used similar language and rhetoric to Donald Trump. Trump responded to the promos on April 2, 2018, defending the company as being “far superior to CNN and even more Fake NBC, which is a total joke.”

Analysis / Bias

In review, WEAR TV – Pensacola News reports local news with minimal bias in wording such as this Deputies: 15-year-old boy fatally shot in central Florida. Many news stories are accompanied by videos from the TV station. National and international news is provided through the Associated Press and others by Sinclair properties.

Editorially, WEAR TV – Pensacola News does not publish op-eds; however, they tend to favor the right when reporting on politics slightly. Further, the website also features links to conservative TV host Sharyl Attkisson’s Full Measure TV program. In general, the news is reported factually and with a slight right-leaning editorial bias.

2. I'm aware of the media bias of NewsNation and there are certainly some videos that I would not post from that site

such as 99% of content with Bill O'Reilly or Chris Cuomo. The network provides exclusive interviews with Democratic politicians who effectively rebut the bias injected by the announcers. This particular video is innocuous and balanced regarding bias so I don't see any particular problem with it.

I don't know why you provided the media bias fact check for WEAR-TV since nothing in the video is associated with the NewsNation video. However, I was slightly surprised that the media bias for NewsNation was just barely to the left of neutral.

As far as trying to track down the media bias of local TV stations, I'm not going to do it because my time is better spent providing information rather than checking the media bias or corporate ownership of literally hundreds of TV stations across the country.

4. Before it was rebranded, NewsNation was WGN from Chicago if that helps.
