Several bills filed to weaken vaccine mandates as more Texas families opt out of immunizations

When speech pathologist Rebecca Hardy recalls her up-close seat to lawmaking during the 2015 state legislative session, she remembers how tough it was to find anyone interested in what she wanted: more choice for Texans when it came to getting vaccinated.

After forming Texans For Vaccine Choice the year before, she came to Austin to see if she could find lawmakers interested in policies to help parents who believe it’s their responsibility, not the government’s, to decide if and when a vaccination is administered to their child.

“We were on the scene far before COVID was even a word that anybody knew and 10 years ago, we did kind of have to sneak around the Capitol, have these conversations about vaccine mandates in the shadows,” the Keller resident now recalls. “And it was really hard to find people willing to put their names on protective pieces of legislation.”

and the classmates of their children--many who cannot be vaccinated or are too young to be vaccinated.

Most physicians today have never seen measles--much less measles encephalitis or pneumonia. I have. And the screams of their parents upon their child's unfortunate death in the hospital ICU still resonate.

And for those of you who have never heard an infant or toddler with whooping cough (pertussis), take a few minutes... All it takes is for those around them to be vaccinated--including the adults who would be if they kept up with tetanus (Tdap is the vaccine combo now used for tetanus that includes pertussis along with tetanus and diphtheria)... Otherwise this needless (and potentially fatal) suffering should give you pause:

If you opt to refuse vaccines, you should not receive insurance coverage for conditions the vaccine is intended to protect. Conditions like measles and polio can and have been avoided with vaccines…. Your choice but also then your financial responsibility.

Do you want less of me? Do you want me not to exist, because I'm a lifelong Texan?

I'm also a lifelong Democrat; I've been a DU participant for more than 20 years. If you want less Texans, what are you doing, spending time in the Texas forum?

Looking forward to a response from you.

I meant to pertain to MAGA Texans. I guess it didn't come off that way. I was thinking of the times the wingnuts push for some restriction but never realize it also applies to them. Anyway, my sister is a long time Texas resident and I certainly don't want her harmed. Also I responded to latest discussions tab, not realizing it was the Texas forum. I'll be more careful in the future. I've been at DU since Gore v Bush and an old man also so I hope you accept my apology. Nobody should mess with Texas or Paladin.

I should have showed better judgment in the words I chose to use in my complaint. I look forward to making common cause with you in the future.

It seems the anti-woke mentality has been around a lot longer than we thought.
But, I think some of them will awaken at the grave sites of their children.
