Tom Scherlen announces campaign for re-election to Amarillo City Council

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Amarillo City Councilmember Tom Scherlen announced his intent to run for re-election to Place 3 on the Amarillo City Council.

Scherlen's campaign says he has a steadfast commitment to serving the people with leadership centered on transparency, public safety and fiscal responsibility.

One of Scherlen's goals is to ensure the voice of each citizen is heard and represented in local government.

During his first term, Scherlen hosted bi-weekly town hall meetings for public engagement, advocated for and upheld the freedoms and rights of Amarillo residents, led efforts to reduce crime and got a $10,000 pay increase for police officers and firefighters, identified bond funding to support street repair and city infrastructure improvements, initiated the development of a dedicated Senior Citizen Center to support the aging population and found savings in the city budget to fund essential projects without unnecessary tax increases, according to his campaign.
