As many Texans know, John Cornyn is running for re-election in 2026. Assuming he stays healthy and survives a possible primary challenge by Ken Paxton, he’ll have to compete against a Democrat.
Cornyn’s race will occur two years into Donald John’s second term. Although he’s proven immune before, this time he’ll have Donald John tied around his neck.
I suspect that we’ll be in the middle of hard times. I hope to high heaven that whatever Democrats we field next year will remember to remind Texas voters again and again and again that John Cornyn had not one but two chances to stop a Trump presidency before it started—and that instead of doing the right thing by the country and the US Constitution, he voted to acquit Trump both times.

(9,765 posts)I’ve lost a lot of hope this past decade. Issues don’t work. The common good doesn’t work. Appeals to common decency don’t work. The idea of voting to defend the Republic didn’t work either. I suspect that part of the reason that Texas Democrats continue to hurt is because of voter apathy and because too many of them bought into the myth that Republican government means prosperity. With Donald John in the White House, that myth is about to have a head-on collision with reality.

Ted is probably getting an erection thinking about being the senior senator from Texas.
