RUN FOR SOMETHING: Markia Bordeaux for Harris County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 7, Pl 2
Markia Yvette Bordeaux is a dedicated attorney, passionate advocate, and community leader committed to uplifting vulnerable populations and driving impactful change. Her journey from social work to the legal profession reflects a lifelong dedication to justice and equity.
Markia is the youngest child born to Darryl and Angela Bordeaux, with three older sisters: Inez, Deanna, and Andrea. She was born in Wurzburg, Germany, where her mother was stationed while serving in the United States Army. When Markia was three years old, her mother was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas (now named Ft. Cavazos), where the family eventually settled in Copperas Cove, Texas a small yet diverse town near the military base.
Markia began her college journey at the renowned HBCU Prairie View A&M University. It was here that she developed strong leadership skills and a deep passion for community.
Markia graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Social Work in May 2012. Her time at Prairie View laid the foundation for a career centered on advocacy and service.
Markia went on to earn her Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law Houston, along with a Mediation Certification and she is now a practicing attorney in Houston.
Following her passion for helping children, Markia worked with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services as a social worker. She was responsible for ensuring the safety of vulnerable children while serving as a resource for parents and caregivers facing challenges like poverty, addiction, and mental health struggles.
Her experiences fueled her desire to expand her impact, leading her to enroll at South Texas College of Law Houston. During law school, Markia provided pro bono services for low-income individuals through the Domestic Violence Clinic and the Expungement Clinic.
Markia's dedication of community advocacy while working full-time and attending law school part-time was recognized with the Lyndon B. Johnson Civil Rights Award from South Texas College of Law in 2020.
Markia is currently an Attorney in the Child Protection Division of the Harris County Attorneys Office, where she advises and represents the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. In a full-circle moment, she now advocates for the same community she served as a social worker.
Her trauma-informed approach and deep commitment to childrens rights led to her role in the Child Protection Court of Harris County, a specialized court dedicated to family preservation, adoptions, and supporting young adults transitioning out of foster care.
