RUN FOR SOMETHING: Dolores Lozano for Harris County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, Place 2

A first-generation college graduate, Judge Lozano earned a scholarship to Baylor University, where she worked multiple jobs while earning her degree. Her early career centered on empowering young people and underserved families—from helping children overcome learning challenges as a speech therapist to leading civic engagement and youth leadership programs that continue to shape Houston’s next generation of leaders.

In 2022, she was elected as the first minority to lead Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, Place 2, and became the youngest women ever to serve as a Justice of the Peace in Harris County. Sworn in by U.S. Congressman Al Green in 2023, Judge Lozano immediately set out to modernize the court, expand access to justice, and ensure every resident is treated with dignity and respect.

During her first term, Judge Lozano transformed JP 2-2 into a people-centered model court, delivering real results for Harris County families. Under her leadership, the court has:

Launched the state and national award-winning Eviction Diversion Initiative, connecting families with over $400,000 in rental assistance and stabilizing housing across Precinct 2.

Created Precinct 2’s first Legal Resource Kiosk, offering free, self-guided legal tools for residents facing not only eviction, debt claims, or landlord-tenant issues, but all legal matters.

Expanded probate, homeownership, and generational-wealth workshops to protect family legacies and keep people in their homes.

Strengthened partnerships with schools, senior centers, civic clubs, and local organizations to bring the court into the community—not the other way around,

Beyond the bench, Judge Lozano continues her long-standing commitment to community service. She serves on the Assistant Secretary on the KIPP Texas Board of Directors and has been selected for leadership programs including the Aspen Ideas Festival, Management Leadership for Tomorrow, Latinos for Education, HTXelerator, and New Leaders Council. She also is an active member of the Junior League of Houston focusing her volunteer efforts at the Houston Food Bank.

Now seeking a second term, Judge Lozano is committed to building on this progress—strengthening access to justice, protecting family homes, expanding community partnerships, and ensuring that the people’s court remains exactly that: the people’s court. She believes that when justice is accessible, compassionate, and fair, families and communities thrive.
