Vermont farm that produced high-end cheeses sold in NYC closes after listeria recall
Consider Bardwell, a dairy and creamery in West Pawlet, Vermont, is closing after a debilitating listeria outbreak and recall. The business is known for crafting high-quality handmade cheeses sold in New York City and around the country.
Owner Angela Miller made the announcement on Consider Bardwell's Facebook page.
"We have completed our financial review and realize that our current funds do not allow us to continue manufacturing and selling our cheeses. We simply do not have the cash flow and resources to recover from the recall and sustain our business to move forward."
A voluntarily recall of their Dorset cheese from Whole Foods over concerns of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination was announced in an FDA notice on Sept. 30. But the farm expanded the recall to include all of Consider Bardwell's products.
