Sanders' non-endorsement of Vermont Democrat raises eyebrows

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - With an approval rating of 80 percent in his home state - the highest of any senator - Bernie Sanders would appear to have a lot of weight to throw around. But so far, he's not putting it behind the Democratic nominee for Vermont governor.

That's raised eyebrows of some Democrats, who wonder why Sanders, a left-leaning independent and former Democratic presidential candidate, hasn't endorsed Sue Minter in her campaign against Republican Phil Scott to replace outgoing Democratic Gov. Peter Shumlin.

Sanders tells The Associated Press he's been busy traveling around the country stumping for Hillary Clinton and for Democrats trying to retake control of the U.S. Senate. He's in Maine and New Hampshire on Friday.

He hasn't talked with Minter, but looks forward to it "as soon as I have five minutes."
