Cats meow gives away fugitives hiding place

SALISBURY — It was a cat’s meow that tipped off Vermont State Police troopers to the whereabouts of a fugitive hiding under a house crawl space in Salisbury.

On Nov. 16, the Rutland City Police Department notified the Vermont State Police at New Haven that they had information concerning fugitive Erica Fitzgerald, 27, a resident of Salisbury.

Troopers found Fitzgerald at 9:30 p.m. hiding at a residence located at 2386 U.S. Route 7 in Salisbury.

Troopers were sent to the Salisbury residence and located Fitzgerald where she was hiding under a house. A housecat was found "meowing" at the siding near her hiding spot.
