Despite an "overall good summer" for COVID cases in the state of Virginia, Governor Ralph Northam stated Thursday afternoon that the Commonwealth is on a different trajectory.
As Virginia experiences consecutive days of more than 1,000 positive COVID cases since mid-April, Northam announced he is requiring all state employees to be vaccinated and show proof by Sept. 1. The governor said those who do not comply by the mandate will have to COVID test every week and show proof of their result.

Administrators said the vaccination rate among the near-120,000 member state workforce is about the same rate as Virginians as a whole 73%. "Vaccines are key to everything," Northam said. "The Delta variant is significantly more contagious than previous strains. It has a higher viral load that can make people sicker and faster. The only way we can beat this is with vaccination."...
