Snow expected to fall within 60 miles of the District

On Monday, the Washington region had 80-degree temperatures and tornado warnings. A little more than 24 hours later, some wet snow is likely in the high elevations of its west and northwest reaches.

Chilly air has poured in behind the storm system that brought Monday’s severe weather. As a little weather disturbance passing through the region precipitates Tuesday night into early Wednesday, temperatures will be just low enough for some wet snow in higher elevations.

Winter weather advisories are in effect for the Blue Ridge Mountains in northern and central Virginia for one to three inches of snow between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday. Even a little bit more than that is possible at elevations above 3,000 feet.

There’s a reasonably good chance that Skyline Drive is frosted with snow, just as it was April 1.
