Virginia primary voters head to the polls amid coronavirus

Virginia voters go to the polls Tuesday to cast ballots in an unusual primary election colored by the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to a contested Republican race to determine who will face Sen. Mark R. Warner in November, there are six contested races in House districts across the state, and a small number of local races.

Key congressional races include the Republican primary to decide who will challenge Rep. Elaine Luria (D) in the 2nd District and the four-way Democratic primary to decide the nominee for an open seat in Virginia’s 5th District after the recent ouster of Rep. Denver Riggleman (R).

Turnout on Tuesday is expected to be low, making for uncertain results, said Quentin Kidd, a political scientist at Christopher Newport University. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In Alexandria, all we have, I think, is a primary to choose a Republican to run against Mark Warner.

I do have to actually go into my work site today. Unfortunately since we moved our polling place is a serious pain in the butt to get to. I don’t know if I need to go vote for Abigail.
