As coronavirus cases in Virginia hit new records, Northam asks people to do the right thing for Thanksgiving
An emotional Gov. Ralph Northam pleaded with Virginians on Wednesday to do the right thing through the Thanksgiving holiday as new coronavirus cases hit record levels in the state and the pandemic continues to devastate the nation.
Ill tell you what really affected me was seeing mobile morgues outside hospitals because theres no place to put the dead, Northam said when asked why he imposed new pandemic restrictions last week. We dont need that to happen in Virginia.
For the third day in a row, Virginia reported more than 2,000 new cases Wednesday a number the state had hit only twice before, on Aug. 7 and Nov. 7. On Monday, the state broke a record with the most cases ever reported in a day, at 2,677.
State health officials have attributed Mondays jump to a brief backlog in cases caused by an outage in the Virginia Department of Healths data system that lasted a few hours over the weekend.
