Microsoft layoffs continue with another 617 job cuts in Seattle area

Redmond-based Microsoft Corp. is laying off 617 employees in Redmond, Bellevue and Issaquah, the company disclosed in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed Feb. 9 with the state of Washington.

The layoffs will start April 10, according to the WARN. The local layoffs are in addition to 878 employees Microsoft in a previous WARN disclosed it was letting go starting March 20 in the same three cities.

A Microsoft spokesperson said in an email the cuts were about making costs align with revenue.

The company laid off workers in units focused on Surface devices, Hololens mixed-reality headsets and Xbox gaming, according to a report from Bloomberg.
