Landmark Elephant Car Wash sign lands at new Seattle location

The Elephant Car Wash chain is gone from the city of Seattle, but one of its landmark signs has been restored and placed on Amazon's high-rise campus, Amazon announced on Thursday.

Earlier this year, the city's Landmarks Preservation Board designated the business's signs as historic. They had been pink beacons for over six decades along Denny Way.

That wash closed in the fall of 2020, with the owners citing urban blight and Seattle's business climate. In August, NASH Holland Partner Group paid longtime owner Clise Properties $40 million for the car wash property and is planning a 440-foot-tall apartment tower.

The Elephant signs were donated for preservation, with one given to the Museum of History & Industry on Lake Union and the other to Amazon.
