"Oregons recent growth in homelessness among largest in nation"
"Oregon reported that nearly 2,000, or 59%, of its 3,373 homeless individuals in families with children were living unsheltered in early 2022. No other state had nearly as high a percentage of people in homeless families living unsheltered. "
"The number of people experiencing homelessness in Oregon grew nearly 23% during the two-year span, increasing by 3,304 people to about 18,000, according to a federally mandated physical count of homeless individuals.
That rate was well above the national average of less than 1% growth in people experiencing homeless and also far outstripped that of the other West Coast states, with Washington experiencing a 10% hike and California a 6% increase, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developments 2022 Annual Homelessness Assessment Report to Congress."
