Thousands of Kaiser employees in SW Washington, Oregon join massive strike

Health care workers in Oregon and southwest Washington joined a massive strike by Kaiser Permanente employees that began Wednesday morning.

More than 75,000 Kaiser Permanente health care workers across the country, including 4,000 in Oregon and southwest Washington, are protesting Wednesday through Saturday morning in what is being billed as the largest health care walkout in U.S. history.

SEIU Local 49 in Portland said on social media Wednesday morning that its members had clocked out and begun picketing at Kaiser Permanente locations in the area, including in Vancouver and Longview.

Understaffing and wages are two issues Kaiser workers say they are most concerned about as negotiations continue.
