DeRousse appointed as new Everett police chief

EVERETT — Mayor Cassie Franklin has appointed Everett’s new police chief: John DeRousse, an Everett officer of 25 years.

DeRousse was sworn in Wednesday at an Everett City Council meeting, following Chief Dan Templeman’s retirement.

“Being appointed Chief of Police is a great honor and I want to thank Mayor Franklin as well as our police department and our community for trusting me with this responsibility,” DeRousse said in a written statement Wednesday.

DeRousse began his career as a deputy in the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office. He came to Everett in 1998. Since then, DeRousse has served as an officer, sergeant, lieutenant and captain. In 2018, he was promoted to deputy chief.
