Party planned for Lynnwood light rail as opening nears

LYNNWOOD — In a few short weeks, Snohomish County is going to be connected to Sound Transit’s Link light rail service.

And you can attend a celebration for that. Starting at 4 p.m. Aug. 30, the day the light rail opens, the public is invited to “festivities, including activities, exhibits and entertainment” at each of the four new stations, Sound Transit said in a press release.

The Lynnwood party is expected to have up to 165 organizations participating, according to the Lynnwood Chamber of Commerce. The organization expects up to 30,000 people are expected to ride the light rail to Lynnwood on its first day open.

Service will begin Aug. 30 after an 11 a.m. ribbon cutting. Trains have been running simulated service since July 8.
