Nick Brown gains slight lead over Manka Dhingra in competitive Attorney General race
Pete Serrano still positioned to advance
Wholl be Bob Fergusons successor as Washingtons chief law enforcement officer?
For the first time in twelve years, voters in the Evergreen State must pick a new Attorney General to serve in the executive department. Three candidates have stepped forward to seek the job: former United States Attorney for Western Washington Nick Brown, State Senator Manka Dhingra, and attorney Pete Serrano. Brown and Dhingra are Democrats; Serrano is a Republican. The November general election ballot only has spots for two candidates, so one of the three is facing elimination next month.
Because hes the only Republican running, Pete Serrano is slated to have the unified support of his partys voters. In our polling this year, he has consistently received the backing of over a third of respondents. That leaves only one spot for one of the Democratic candidates to take. Brown and Dhingra have been nearly tied in all but one of our surveys to date, but in our latest poll, which fielded last week, Brown has gained a slight edge, suggesting that he might be best positioned to get that second spot.
Asked who they were voting for to be Washingtons next AG last week, 38% of 581 likely voters interviewed by Public Policy Polling for the Northwest Progressive Institute said Serrano, 17% said Brown, 15% said Dhingra, and 30% said they were not sure.
