SULTAN Changes are coming to U.S. 2 in Sultan.
A new roundabout at Old Owen Road is slated to begin construction next spring. The roundabout will include crosswalks and new curbs.
Its a $16.65 million state project, with money coming from the 2015 Connecting Washington funding package from the state Legislature. The 16-year program is funded primarily by an 11.9-cent gas tax.
We are supportive of this important project to improve safety and mobility through the City of Sultan, Mayor Russell Wiita said in a press release. It is important that the state continue to invest in the US-2 corridor as one of only two year-round routes for crossing the Cascade Mountains from Puget Sound. As the population in the Greater Puget Sound region continues to grow at rapid rates, these needs will continue to grow.

Wonder Why
(4,589 posts)as many sidewalks, one of each on either side of the road. Trees and houses have already been removed. Next is to move the power poles then the road work. I'm preparing by stocking up with some ice water and digital camera film to capture all the fun of the idiots trying to find their way through. I can't wait!
LPBBEAR
(358 posts)already causing huge traffic jams on Highway 2. They should be barred from having a second one or at the very least a bypass should be built around this town.
I live in Washington state and occasionally have to drive Highway 2 to get over to the Seattle area. It used to be a fairly relaxed trip. Sultan's stop lights would slow the journey a bit but not bad. Then the braniacs in the Department Of Highway decided to put in a roundabout as you enter the east side of Sultan. Its become a nightmare. Traffic can back up for miles trying to get through this choke point
Washington state is going through a love affair with roundabouts. In some situations they can be useful but most of the ones being built in this state are being forced into locations where they are not appropriate. I hope sanity returns to this states road planners sometime soon, I'm running out of optional routes to avoid these nightmares.
