Sea-Tac Airport launches service to new Asian destination
A long-sought route between Seattle and the Philippines will finally begin service from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday.
Philippine Airlines will roll out its first direct flight between Seattle and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, the Philippine capital.
Flights will run on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing from Manila at 10:40 p.m. and from Seattle at 11:40 p.m., local time. Philippine Airlines will fly a Boeing 777-300ER that can also carry 60 tons of cargo per week, the airline said in a news release.
Washington is home to the fourth-largest population of Filipinos among U.S. states, with more than 194,000, according to 2020 census data. A direct flight between Seattle and the archipelago has long been one of our most frequently requested routes, Port of Seattle Commissioner Toshiko Hasegawa said in a news release when the port, which oversees the airport, first announced the new route in April.
