NO on I‑2109 releases its latest ad: "Constance"

The campaign working to protect Washington’s Education Legacy Trust from being defunded by Brian Heywood and Jim Walsh’s Initiative 2109 has released its latest ad, starring a Washington mom named Constance. The ad explains that if I‑2109 were to pass, the super wealthy would get a huge tax cut, while billions of dollars going to childcare, early leaning, and K‑12 education would be lost over the next five years.

Watch it:

Since 2015, NPI’s research has continuously found that a majority of Washingtonians support levying a capital gains tax on the wealthy to fund education. Legislators trusted that research and brought the idea to fruition four years ago. Republican State Party Chair Jim Walsh and Republican megadonor Brian Heywood don’t trust it. They’re convinced that voters will jump at the opportunity to cut taxes for the rich. So Heywood paid for a statewide vote on the state’s recently-enacted capital gains tax on the wealthy, which has already survived a legal challenge from Republican donors.

That’s why we have to vote on Initiative 2109 this year — because one really rich guy moved here from California and got upset that our elected representatives finally decided to take a modest step to balance our upside down tax code.

Heywood has at times claimed he’s not pursuing I‑2109 for himself, trying to rebut the argument that I‑2109 is a self-serving scheme. Our team doesn’t believe him.

All 4 are bad for the state and good for him. I plan to vote no on every single one of them.
