Navy crash victims from Whidbey identified

WHIDBEY ISLAND — The two Navy pilots killed in a crash near Mount Rainier were identified Monday.

On Oct. 15, Lt. Cmdr. Lynsday “Miley” Evans and Lt. Serena “Dug” Wileman crashed in the Boeing-made EA-18G Growler from Electronic Attack Squadron 130 about 30 miles west of Yakima. The wreckage was found Wednesday.

The Navy declared Evans and Wileman dead Sunday. They were both from California.

“More than just names and ranks, they were role models, trailblazers, and women whose influence touched countless people on the flight deck and well beyond,” the Navy wrote in a social media post Monday.

Navy vet here; watched hundreds of takeoffs and landings by the Navy pilots as they left and returned from the flight decks of the carriers in the '60's.

Watched them from the deck of a tin can following a mile behind the carriers. We were there to rescue the pilots if the plane failed in landing or takeoff.

We never had to pick one up. Incredible, amazing flyers.
