Apartment project for homeless families opens in Edmonds

Nonprofit housing developer Housing Hope held a grand opening last week for the 52-unit Madrona Highlands development at 8215 236th St. SW in Edmonds.

The $30 million project for families exiting homelessness was developed on a 1.35-acre site formerly owned by Edmonds Lutheran Church. The complex includes six one-bedroom units, 34 two-bedroom units and 12 three-bedroom units.

Residents of the project may earn up to 30% or up to 60% of the area median income, according to Snohomish County documents. For a single person, that works out to $23,250 or $46,500, respectively.

The project received $13.1 million last year through the federal low-income housing tax credit program, which was instrumental in leveraging the project’s other funding, said Joan Penney of Housing Hope.
