In an ominous sign for the Washington State Republican Party of what fate likely awaits them at the end of the 2024 presidential election next month, what was supposed to be a major get out the vote event yesterday at the Capitol Campus in Olympia turned into an embarrassingly spectacular bust when the party faithful failed to show up.
The party had promoted the event as an opportunity to hear from Chair Jim Walsh and an all-star cast of candidates. Attendees were urged to bring their ballots. Advance invitations were posted on the partys Twitter account, Facebook account, and its main website, like the one below, published at 11:08 AM the day before.
But when 3 PM rolled around, the hoped-for masses had not materialized, as you can see from the photo above, provided by an observer who stopped by the Legislative Building to see how the Republicans were getting along.
A pair of videos posted on YouTube by an account called Stealth Creations corroborates that a tiny number of people were in attendance to hear from Walsh and candidates like Pete Serrano (running for Attorney General), Sharon Hanek (running for Auditor), and Carmen Goers (running for Congress). In the first of the two videos (which are hard to watch, not because of the content, but because of extremely sloppy filming and editing), Walsh can be heard thanking the itty bitty crowd for braving the blustery weather and promising them were going to go quickly, before it starts to monsoon.
