Yearlong bridge closure between Everett, Mukilteo begins Wednesday

EVERETT — For the next 12 months, the Edgewater Bridge will be closed.

The main connection between Everett and Mukilteo is undergoing a $34 million replacement project. And that means long detours for commuters.

Beginning Wednesday, the eastbound detour will have drivers head south on Mukilteo Speedway, turn left onto 84th Street SW and then take another left onto Highway 526. Drivers will need to exit at Seaway Boulevard, and follow that road to Merrill Creek Parkway. After turning right onto Merrill Creek Parkway, drivers will then need to turn left onto Glenwood Avenue, leading drivers back to Mukilteo Boulevard. The detour is about 7.5 miles.

The westbound detour takes drivers along the same route in reverse order, starting by turning south on Glenwood Avenue from Mukilteo Boulevard. The school bus route is roughly the same as the detour, starting near Edgewater Park.
