Desperate Washington State Republicans lob vicious, false attacks against Yakima Democratic legislative hopefuls

On Friday, with mere hours to go until the voting concludes in the 2024 presidential election, nerve-wracked Republicans started unleashing a torrent of nasty, lie-ridden text messages in a desperate attempt to hold on to a trio of legislative seats in Central Washington. The messages, targeting Spanish-language voters, are an attempt to prevent the historic election of three Latina Democratic candidates who would give the region a voice within the Legislature’s majority caucuses for the first time in years.

A specimen of one of the nasty text messages was published on Friday by Maria Beltran’s campaign on Facebook, with both English and Spanish annotations.

Beltran, a Senate hopeful, is one of the three Latina Democratic candidates. The others are Chelsea Dimas and Ana Ruiz Kennedy, who are running for the House.

“Curtis King and the Republican Party have crossed the line — today they sent this text full of blatant lies and fear-mongering out to Spanish-speakers in our community,” said Beltran, referring to her opponent, longtime Republican State Senator Curtis King.
