Amazon's headcount in Bellevue will make another jump by year's end

Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) expects to have 17,500 employees based in Bellevue by the end of the year as the tech giant steams ahead to its planned 25,000 workers stationed in the Eastside city.

As of Monday, a spokesperson said the company has 14,000 employees in Bellevue, with an additional 3,500 expected later this year. The company didn't specify whether those would be new hires or employees relocating.

Amazon has ramped up quickly in Bellevue, where it had only 2,790 employees in 2020, according to city data. At the start of 2024, it had 11,000 employees, making it Bellevue's largest employer.

Amazon's growing headcount in Bellevue means more to the city now than it did a year ago. The company plans to implement a five-day in-office workweek in January, which figures to provide a jolt to the local economy.
