Everett council chooses downtown site for potential AquaSox stadium
EVERETT After almost two years of studies and deliberations, the Everett City Council on Wednesday selected a downtown location as the site for a potential stadium to host the minor league AquaSox.
The council did not decide on whether a stadium will be built. That will come further along in the process after a design is completed likely in 2025 or early 2026, according to consultants working on the project.

The vote also means the city can now seek more funding from public or private investors including, possibly, the Seattle Mariners, the teams Major League affiliate because the potential stadium now has a finalized site. It could also house United Soccer League mens and womens teams.
The stadium would be located between Hewitt Avenue and Pacific Avenue, with Broadway to the west. It would sit between Angel of the Winds Arena to the west and Everett Station to the southeast.

Everett approves stadium plan for Seattle Mariners affiliate
The Everett City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved a proposal for a new stadium downtown, solidifying the long-term future of the AquaSox, a fixture in the city since 1984.
City officials had considered renovating Funko Field, home to the AquaSox for the past 29 years, at an estimated cost of $80 million. The approved downtown stadium project could cost up to $120 million, according to preliminary estimates.
When Major League Baseball updated stadium standards in 2021 for minor league teams, it effectively forced Everett and other minor league cities to either invest in their ballparks or risk losing teams.
The MLB has imposed fines up to six figures against AquaSox owner 7th Inning Stretch LLC for every season the team does not meet the stadium standard.
