Live or work in Tukwila, Kent, or Renton? It may be time to "go now" or "get set" to escape Green River flooding -- don't

delay!

If you live or work in a low-lying neighborhood of Tukwila near the Green River, it could be time to either evacuate or get ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice.

City staff reached out to NPI and other media outlets today for help getting the word out about the the evacuation order Tukwila officials issued after the failure of a key levee along the Green River. Here’s the city’s emergency announcement:

December 15, 2025: Desimone Levee Breach Information. Evacuation Order in Effect – Updated 1:20 PM

Avoid West Valley Highway. Tukwila is closing West Valley Hwy southbound at 180th. Kent is closing northbound at 212th. The Desimone Levee has breached. This is a GO NOW evacuation for people in parts of Kent, Tukwila, and Renton. In Tukwila the GO NOW is only for that part of the City that is east of the Green River, south of S. 180th Street and west of West Valley Hwy.

The City or King County has not issued an evacuation for any areas west of the Green River in Tukwila. However, the situation could change and residents and business should be READY in case an evacuation order needs to be issued.
