RIP Bill Stewart
Stewart's Timeline At West Virginia
Looking back at his career, here were some of the more memorable wins for Coach Stewart during his tenure.
1. January 2, 2008 Fiesta Bowl, 48-28 win over Oklahoma. The game that propelled Stewart into the head coaching position ended up being his best win overall. The underdog Mountaineers rallied from what had been a dreadful month of December with a 20 point pounding of the Sooners. Stewart was then hired on as the 32nd Mountaineer head football coach just hours later.
2. 2009 19-16 win over No. 9 Pitt in Morgantown: Late game dramatics and top 10 Pitt goes down this one will certainly be remembered as one of Bill Stewarts best wins with West Virginia.
3. 2008 home win over Auburn, 34-17: After initially falling behind 17-3, the Mountaineers stormed back in front of a national television audience on a Thursday night to take down the Tigers. Perhaps somewhat overshadowed in this game was the Mountaineer defense which held Auburn to only 33 second half yards.
4. 2008 Car Care Bowl win over North Carolina, 31-30: A game that was simply fun to watch as both offenses seemingly had an answer to everything early. Both teams combined to score 35 points in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Pat White threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns in his final game as a Mountaineer.
5. 2010 road win over Pitt 35-10: Part of a four game winning streak to end the regular season. West Virginia won the turnover battle 4-0 and dominated the game in the end.
