U.S. Sen. Manchin, of WV, reiterates importance of proposed storage hub in committee meeting
WASHINGTON U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., on Tuesday pushed for updates related to and stressed the importance of the proposed Appalachian Storage Hub during a committee meeting.
The discussion regarding the hub took place as part of a meeting of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee regarding 11 pieces of legislation. The bill related to the hub is the Appalachian Energy for National Security Act, which was introduced by Manchin.
The ranking member of the committee, Manchin questioned Shawn Bennett, the deputy assistant secretary for Oil and Gas for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy specifically regarding an executive order issued by President Trump.
Ive talked with (Department of Energy) Secretary (Rick) Perry and hes seen the model of a class 5 hurricane coming up the Houston Channel and what it can do to cripple the energy of our country and the dependency we have," Manchin said. "So we are looking for a backup. West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio with all of the energy we have stored there and the protection of the mountains among everything else its a natural hub.
