- AP News, May 25, 2022. CHARLESTON, W.Va.
West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice said Wednesday he is being treated for possible Lyme disease after becoming ill following two events he attended in the northern part of the state. The Republican governor postponed his regularly scheduled COVID-19 briefings this week and said he has tested negative for the coronavirus.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through tick bites. Symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue and a skin rash. If left untreated, the infection can spread to joints, the heart and the nervous system. Most cases can be treated with antibiotics.
In a statement, Justice said he began feeling ill after events Monday in Wheeling and Blacksville. I immediately got tested for COVID-19 and was negative, but I am still having symptoms and nowhere near 100%, the governor said.
He said he plans to resume his COVID-19 briefings after the Memorial Day weekend. In January, Justice contracted the coronavirus and had to postpone delivery of his State of the State speech to the Legislature. ~

Jim Justice is West Virginias richest man and owns its most storied resort. When lobbyists and state agencies book there, he profits. Heres how the governor, dubbed Big Jim, became West Virginias little Trump. By Ken Ward Jr., The Charleston Gazette-Mail.
.. the new governor held his inaugural ball, not at a Charleston hotel or the local civic center, as his predecessors long had, but at The Greenbrier, a palatial resort 120 miles from the Capitol. The hotels owner: Jim Justice.
Thousands of guests mingled across The Greenbriers multiple ballrooms and ornate lobbies, feasting on a local-inspired menu that included fried chicken and ham biscuits. Some tried their luck at the resorts casino. In the 12,000-square-foot Colonial Hall, Lionel Richie serenaded the first couple with his 1977 Commodores hit Easy. Do it, Jim! Do it, Jim! the singer coaxed, as Justice and his wife, Cathy, slow-danced on the stage.
Partygoers paid $75 each for tickets. But the tab was largely picked up by industry leaders, statehouse lobbyists and a variety of special interest groups, each contributing thousands of dollars to the governors inaugural committee to fund the lavish festivities...https://www.propublica.org/article/west-virginia-greenbrier-governor-jim-justice-little-trump
